Pasadena Icon Visits Capital

Pasadena resident and icon Mickey Gilley was celebrated in Austin today with Resolutions on the House and Senate floor. Representative Ken Legler District 144, hosted a reception at the Capital which included a visit with Texas Governor Rick Perry. Thursday evening at a private reception Mickey Gilley, who was accompanied by his son Mike and his daughter Kathy, surprised guests including Pasadena Mayor Johnny Isbell with a private performance. Mickey Gilley was also honored with a Admiral-ship in the Texas Navy by Governor Rick Perry.

On March 2, 2002, Gilley, along with his two famous cousins Lewis and Swaggart, were inducted into the Delta Music Museum Hall of Fame.

Police investigate animal cruelty at 403 Wafer. Thursday afternoon. Neighbors say that the owner was ticketed for several violations of animal cruelty as the Pasadena Animal Control took the dog away.

The San Jacinto Battleground was alive today with thousands of visitors as General Sam Houston’s rag tag army makes history against Santa Anna’s forces in the annual reenactment in the shadows of the San Jacinto Monument and Battleship Texas.

Historical Pasadena Texas a coffee table book was just recently released, a Pasadena Historical Society project headed by Keith Nielsen Executive Director of the PHS. The long awaited book feature C David Pomeroy Jr. as author. Many local business are featured in the book who supported project along with a great story of Pasadena’s History. The book is for sale and can be purchased at Heritage Park & Museum during the weekdays.

Coming up this May you will also be able to purchase your copy at the Annual Pasadena Strawberry Festival’s Historical Society Booth were David Pomeroy will be signing copies. The books proceeds will go the projects and upkeep at Heritage Park & Museum.

Epic Art Unveiling

In the shadows of the San Jacinto Battleground 175 years later with the Economic Alliance Houston Port Region, KBR, Commissioner Jack Morman, The San Jacinto Texas Historical District and Vopak who provide the donor canvas for the unveiling of the 6th Epic Art piece in a series depicting Sam Houston’s ragged Texas Army in 1836 who made the fateful march to San Jacinto.

Tourist and locals can enjoy the Epic Art as they make there way into Battleground Park for the annual reenactment of the battle that gained Texas Independence from Mexico

San Jacinto Republican Women opened there Campaign Headquarters with a full house, The Headquarters for the Harris County GOP’s Southside Victory Center the many candidates came out for a ribbon cutting by the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce with combined effort of the Bay Area Republican Women and the San Jacinto Republican Women.

Thursday evenings will feature meet and greets for candidates.
